God became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood.
— John 1:14, The Message

Our story

Detroit is a dynamic city fueled with a pioneering spirit of people such as Henry Ford in the auto industry or the artists of Motown. Since its founding, Detroit has been a world-changing city whose impact has been worldwide in its scope.

It was in 2010 that God began speaking to several YWAM staff about pioneering a YWAM location in Detroit. The dream was to see Detroit filled with YWAM teams all across the city as a network of teams meeting a variety of needs for the diverse communities represented in the Metro area.

It was in February 2014 that the first official staff member moved into the city and began YWAM Detroit. Over the past several years, many students, staff, mission teams, and volunteers have worked alongside one another to serve communities across Detroit, Hamtramck, and the Dearborn area.

In July 2021, YWAM Detroit purchased a new property in the Hamtramck area that will serve as the home of mission teams, staff, students, missions training, and community outreach.

We believe God has so much in store for such a rich city as we dream of seeing teams form around cross-cultural ministry, justice-oriented ministry, community development, church planting, and missions training.
